We very much look forward to welcoming you to the University and working with you as you begin your journey to becoming teachers. We are delighted to be your course directors and getting to know you when you join us on campus on Thursday 10th September for your first taught study day with us.

Hannah Duncan and Claire March
Course Directors

Welcome

Your course begins in school with you attending all staff training and induction activities as an employee. We are excited to then meet you on campus once a week on Thursdays, beginning with University Induction activities on 10th and 17th September. These include meeting your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) who will support you through your time with us, getting to know one another and joining some of the University-wide welcome activities.

Getting started

We know that you are excited about getting started on the course. To support your smooth transition, we have collated a set of information which you will find useful. This includes the course timetable, sources of support and a range of pre-arrival tasks. Please ensure that you engage with these prior to the course start date and be ready to discuss these with your tutors when you arrive.

Please follow this link to a Padlet containing important course information and the pre-arrival tasks: https://padlet.com/cccu/tda-welcome-padlet-eyusrt67tucevh6a

Teaching for your off-the-job training will take place at the Canterbury campus most Thursdays. You will be working with your cohort of fellow Teacher Degree Apprentices for group seminars, practical sessions and academic and study skills support. You will also be given some independent study days to work on your assignments and some individual tutorial support with your PAT and/ or module tutor.

We will introduce BlackBoard during course induction; this is our virtual learning environment where you can access session resources, reading lists and further resources which you can follow up during your independent study time. You will also be introduced to your online Professional Portfolio and shown how to log your off-the-job training hours, some of which will consist of the university taught days, independent study, tasks to complete in school and time with your mentor (e.g. for formal observations of your teaching, subsequent Learning Conversation and mentor meeting).
