Profile summary

May Chen began her nursing career in 1994 and is currently a Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing. She came from Newcastle University in 2012, working in a research capacity with involvement in a range of investigations centred around diabetes (and the reversal of Type 2 diabetes) and how physical activity influences health and wellbeing and chronic disease such as diabetes. Prior to this May practised in adult nursing for many years both in China and in the UK. Teaching and supervising always formed part of her past role.  

May holds the MRes degree with distinction from Newcastle University and BSc (Hons) in Nursing Sciences. She also has qualifications in Psychology (UK) and Administration & Management (China) and Nursing Sciences (China). She is a Fellow of The Higher Educational Academy and has NMC Teacher status.

Teaching and subject expertise

Her academic interests include student engagement, internationalisation of education, health & well-being and sustainable development.
