Profile summary

I  am  a Senior Lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University. I teach both pre and post registration programmes for Adult Nursing with a specific interest in working with people with long term conditions and service user involvement. I am keen to raise awarness of mental health and wellbeing as part of whole person centred care within adult nursing and promote the ability to enable caring conversations to happen with people experiencing emotional distress ( with or without a mental health diagnosis)

I have a District Nurse Specialist Practitioner and prescribing qualification, and community nursing and primary care are both subject areas I am extremely passionate and enthusiastic towards.  I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and also have achieved a first class degree with honours and a distinction in practice, a post graduate certificate in learning & teaching and a MA in Higher Education.

Previously I have worked for the NHS for over twenty years both in the acute (acute medical and rehabilitation) within various London Hospitals as a staff nurse, team leader, deputy and ward sister/manager and then in Kent as a community staff nurse and District Nursing Sister and then working within CCCU for the last 8 years with excellent practice links in place.

I have published work in relation to mentorship and developing the link mentorship role for practitioners and partnership working between health education institutes  and practice. I also have published in conjunction with three other colleagues a very practical book aimed at pre-registration nurses working within the community settings.

Publications and research outputs

I have published work in relation to mentorship and developing the link mentorship role for practitioners and partnership working between health education institutes  and practice. I also have published in conjunction with three other colleagues a very practical book aimed at pre-registration nurses working within the community setting. Currently I am conducting a research study with a fellow mental health lecturer colleague at CCCU in relation to the IPL pre-registration programme for adult nurses. This study will compare and evaluate innovative learning and teaching strategies and the impact upon student nurses practice in relation to working with people experiencing mental health issues.
