The Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), based at the Medway campus of Canterbury Christ Church University, represents a centre of excellence for postgraduate medical education and research.

This includes specialised programmes in MCh Surgery (Otorhinolarngology), MCh Surgery (Orthopaedics and Regenerative Medicine), MCh Surgery (Urology), MCh (Ophthalmology) and MCh (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) and supports ground breaking research in the use stem cell technology within clinical practice. The Institute houses a fully-equipped clinical Simulation Suite enabling clinicians to develop skill and expertise using specialised equipment.

The university has strong links with the urology robotic service provided by the Urology Department at the Kent and Canterbury hospital, led by Consultant Urologist Mr Ben Eddy.

The Institute recently became only one of six UK universities running the International Sponsorship Scheme for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) permitting those IMGs who meet the General Medical Council (GMC) criteria to gain GMC registration whilst studying at the university and supported by named clinicians.

Teaching and research within the Institute is led by leading clinicians and researchers.

"The Institute of Medical Sciences provides clinicians from the UK and overseas a unique opportunity to gain high quality education and training within the ever developing field of medicine, surgery and healthcare.  Each programme of study provides access to state of the art facilities and expertise to ensure a flexible and tailored experience for all our participants.  As an Institute, our vision is to deliver unique, ground breaking and innovative programmes which have been developed in collaboration with leading internationally renowned surgeons and physicians.  We are an international research centre which is recognised for its work in stem cell technology and advanced bio-engineering."
