06.08.2018 - Replacement of student PCs in Augustine House
The IT department are in the process of replacing the student PCs with new equipment in Augustine House throughout August. The work is being carried out at our quietest time in order to minimise disruption. However work will have to be undertaken in the Silent Zone so there may be some noise whilst this is completed. Students can book the group study rooms during this time through ‘My Calendar’ on the Portal.
30.07.2018 - The Library System will be unavailable from 10pm on Saturday 4th August until 9am on Monday 6th August
The system will be unavailable due to maintenance work by our service provider.
This will affect our self-service facilites in Augustine House so you will not be able to issue items on the self-issue machines during this period or return items through the self-returns machine.
You will be able to have items issued at the Library Point on the ground floor during staffed hours, which are 11am - 5pm on Sunday, and items can still be returned via the signposted slot by the returns machine.
You will be able to access LibrarySearch and online resources, but it will not be showing up to date information on the availability of books on the shelf, and your account information will also not show current loan information during this time.
17.07.2018 - Broadstairs Learning Centre – Closing Friday 27th July
To ensure that all our students can benefit from a vibrant student experience and excellent facilities, in liaison with students, we have been gradually transferring all our Broadstairs courses to Canterbury. As a result the Broadstairs Campus will be closing at the end of summer with the new arts building in Canterbury opening in September.
As part of the closure of the Broadstairs campus, the Learning Centre will be closing on Friday 27 July. After closing, we will be setting up a new library in the Kent Innovation Centre next door to the campus, which will be ready to welcome our last returning Business Studies students in September. Students based at other sites who live in the Thanet area will also be able to use the new facility during 2018-19. We will also move lots of resources to Augustine House Library to provide for the courses transferring to the new arts building.
Any Broadstairs items that would be due between the 23 July – 17 September will be automatically updated to the 17 September. Until the 17September it will not be possible to request Broadstairs stock for delivery to another campus or to collect reservations from Broadstairs.
July Opening Times
Normal opening hours will be in operation until the 14 July, ensuring all students are supported through reassessments.
From the 14 - 27 July we will be operating summer opening hours. During this period there may be some disruption as we prepare for the move. Some of the shelving will be dismantled in the Library on the 19 July. There will be limited access to Library stock from the week beginning the 23 July, so we recommend that any items you might need for the summer are borrowed by Friday 20th July.
Further details on the opening of the library in the Kent Innovation Centre will follow.
A big thank you to all our students, past and present, who have been such a pleasure to meet and support at the Learning Resources Centre over the last eighteen years. We look forward to continuing to support you in your studies at Canterbury.

To celebrate UNESCO World Book and Copyright Day, Library and Learning Resources have today launched our new online copyright guidance.
The online Copyright Helper is designed to assist staff and students in deciding whether (and to what extent) they can copy items for study/research purposes or include copyright material in their work. Please note that any guidance does not constitute legal advice.
Copyright Helper asks the user a number of questions to help determine whether copying the material for the intended usage is likely to infringe copyright law. It has been structured in a way that the questions can be worked through in sequence or so the user can identify the most relevant questions for their needs.
Copyright Helper can be accessed directly via this link or from the copyright page on the Library website.
