Learning & Research Librarian (Learning & Teaching)
I am the Learning & Research Librarian (Learning & Teaching), supporting the Faculty of Education. I joined CCCU in 2002 as an Assistant Librarian after gaining my MA in Library and Information Studies at Aberystwyth. My trainee library year was spent working at the fascinating London Library, where I realised that vast amounts of literature are only useful if they are well organised and made accessible to people – and knew I wanted to be a librarian.
I work closely with academic staff to integrate information and digital literacy skills into their programmes and I enjoy helping students to achieve their potential at university and in developing lifelong learning skills. My own teaching skills are being enhanced by studying for the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice, having already achieved the UCAP.
I also support researchers and advise on the library collection development for the Faculty of Education. My own areas of research interest include students’ transitions to university and how they develop an understanding of scholarly information and their own information searching skills; exploring active learning techniques in teaching; and investigating online technologies to support students at a distance.
I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
