Preparing for life after university
Graduation is a time to celebrate your achievements! The experiences and skills you have developed along the way are what make you a graduate. You will have a strong subject knowledge and yet the ‘soft’ skills which you develop through studying and university life are just as valuable.
What makes a graduate? There is no definitive answer; however, there are skills which are accepted by educators and employers as key graduate abilities.
Below is a table of learning skills which you have developed during your course with the support of your Librarian and Learning Developer. If you are applying for a position, you can use examples from these skills in your application. For instance, a job description may specify team working skills as essential, which you could evidence with your experience of collaborating on group assignments. Your university experience is unique and during that time you have developed strengths, such as digital skills through online learning. It is important to be able to identify and promote these skills.
