Welcome to the induction activities for the PG Cert in Specialist Teaching and Assessment for Dyslexia. The course starts with a focus on understanding dyslexia and teaching learners with literacy difficulties. This module helps you prepare for the specialist teaching element, as it includes a focus on developing your understanding of relevant legislation and ethical principles you must adhere to when teaching and preparing to teach. Specifically, you will explore the importance of phonics and multi-sensory approaches in teaching learners with dyslexia. The module also includes guidance on academic skills needed for postgraduate study.  

Learning Outcomes

By completing this module, you will:

  • Understand how legislation and ethical principles underpin your teaching practice  
  • Be able to explain how a learner might present in class, if they have literacy difficulties, and consider ethical issues and source recording equipment for your teaching practice
  • Explore the importance of phonics and multi-sensory approaches in teaching learners with dyslexia, including where to source teaching resources
  • Understand how to access resources to develop your academic skills at postgraduate level
