At Canterbury Christ Church University, our experts in English language development help our short course participants adapt to a changing and diverse world.

General English Course

If you are learning English and wish to develop your language proficiency in a beautiful, historic city, then this course is for you.

Classes are interactive and focused on English language improvement, aiming to build confidence in using English in a wide range of situations.

The classes support students in developing their communication skills as well as consolidating grammar and vocabulary. The emphasis is on learning through participation and active use of language skills.

The course is suitable for students with some previous experience of learning English and who are at least pre-intermediate level in English (CEFR Level A2, IELTS 3.5).

Pre-sessional Courses in Academic English Skills

Our pre-sessional course develops the academic and language skills necessary to succeed in undergraduate or postgraduate degree study.

There are 6 and 10 week courses available, depending on individual needs. Our team of experienced tutors will ensure all students on the course have the very best start in their academic studies.

Specialised Courses

We design specialised courses to meet the specific needs of particular groups of students. They offer flexibility in both duration and content.

This has included courses:

  • for English Language teachers, focusing on both English language and methodology
  • for international nurses wishing to improve their English and experience healthcare in the UK (supported by our School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work)
  • in partnership with overseas universities, where students combine English language classes and study on our undergraduate modules.
