Your step-by-step guide to online registration

When we’re ready for you to start your online registration in MyRecord, you’ll receive an email titled 'Invitation to online registration' to the email address that you used for your application.

It’s important to start your online registration as soon as you're invited to do so, to avoid any delays in starting your course or receiving your student finance (where applicable).

You don’t need to complete it in one go - you can log out of MyRecord at any time, and the information you’ve already provided will be saved. However, the sooner you are successfully registered, the sooner you'll have access to your online services and be eligible to receive your student finance (as applicable).

Because there's a lot of information to display during the online registration process, we recommend that you use a computer rather than a mobile device, and use Google Chrome as a browser. However, if you only have a smartphone or tablet, you can use a mobile device with either an Android or iOS operating system.

1. Logging in to MyRecord

When logging in to MyRecord to start your online registration, you must use the 'Applicant Login' option:

MyRecord student and staff login
You'll need to register in MyRecord, using the 'Applicant Login'.
  • Your username is your Student ID (you will find at the top of the email inviting you to register) or the email address you used for your application.
  • Your password is the password you chose yourself if you’ve used MyRecord already. If this is the first time you have used MyRecord, or you can't remember your password, just click on the 'Forgotten your password?' button to get it re-set. If you have tried 'forgotten password' on applicant login and are still having issues logging in, please email applicantservices@canterbury.ac.uk.

Once you’ve logged in, make sure that ‘My Registration’ is selected from the tabs along the top. (You might see different tabs than the ones shown here, depending on your circumstances.)

2. Checking your course details

Before you can start your online registration, you must check the course details we hold for you and either:

  • confirm they are correct or
  • advise us there appears to be an issue, in which case our Admissions team will need to investigate before you can start your online registration. Once Admissions contact you to confirm the issue has been resolved, you can log back into MyRecord to continue.

Before you can start your online registration, we need you to check the course details we hold for you.

3. Completing online registration (section-by-section)

Your online registration is tailored to you, so you’ll only be asked to carry out tasks that are relevant to your circumstances and course. Much of the information we ask for is on behalf of the government, and therefore mandatory, but you can opt out of answering some of the questions.

You can complete the sections in any order, and keep track of your progress using these symbols. For each section, you can see at a glance if it's:

This means that you have not yet started this section or there is more information for you to provide. This means you have successfully provided everything that is needed for this particular section. This means we still need to check and verify the information you have provided. When we have done so, the section will be marked 'Complete'.

When every steps shows as either 'Complete' or 'Pending', you will then be invited to accept the Terms and conditions of student registration.

As part of your registration, you will need to upload a number of photos. This will include some or all of the following:

  • your ID documents
  • your qualifications
  • yourself

We can accept photos taken with a smartphone, but in the case of your documents we need a photograph of your original documents, rather than a photograph of a photograph.

Click on each of the tabs below for more about the different elements of your online registration.

As part of your student summary, we need a colour photo of you which will be your official CCCU student photo. This will also be used for your student smartcard (if you are eligible for one).

If you don't upload a photo, you won't be able to accept our terms and condition and continue with your registration.

Your photo needs to meet certain criteria (similar to passport photos). So when choosing your photo please make sure it is:

  • of your head and shoulders only (like a passport photo)
  • without any filters
  • in colour, and taken against a light background
  • taken recently
  • taken of you facing forward with your eyes open and clearly visible (with no sunglasses, tinted glasses or hair across your eyes)
  • free from reflection or excessive shadows
  • of you on your own (no other people or objects in the photo)
  • taken of the full head, without any covering, unless it is worn for religious beliefs or medical reasons;
  • taken with nothing covering your face.

There are three simple steps to providing your student photo:

  • browse your computer, smartphone or tablet to find your preferred photo of yourself;
  • upload it; and
  • submit it.

The Registration team will check that you have submitted a suitable photo, and either approve it or contact you by email if there is an issue.

Terms and conditions of student registration

Once you've worked your way through each section of your online registration and each one is marked either 'Pending' or 'Complete', a final section will appear for our Terms and Conditions of Student Registration. The arrangements set out in our terms and conditions apply to all students registered with us. They define the basis of the contractual agreement between you as the student and us as the University.

You’ll be asked to agree to these as part of online registration. It’s important you read them carefully so you understand the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures that are in place to help ensure all students are treated fairly.
