Learning & Research Librarian for Business and Management

You can use Library Search to search for the books you need. Just type in a few words from the title plus the surname of the author(s) into the search box. If you get stuck – please ask!

You will find the majority of the Business and Management book collection at classmarks 650 to 658. They can be found on the 3rd floor of Augustine House, or in the Quiet and Silent Zones in the Drill Hall Library. Specific classmarks which may be useful:

Each number refers to a different subject area. In Augustine House, the lowest numbers are on the first floor and the highest numbers are on the third floor. Remember to check the different areas housing the 7-day loan (open shelves) and 4-week loans (moving shelves). In the Drill Hall Library, all books are on the ground floor - 4-week and 7-day loans are shelved together.

You can browse printed copies of journals on the 2nd floor of Augustine House in the silent zone. These are for use in the library only. However, most journals are also available online.

You can see which journals are available online by using Library Search. Make sure you log in first! (You will need your university username and password).Try entering the title of a journal into the search box or using the Find e-journals by title link.

BrowZine LogoYou can also browse e-journals by subject, using Browzine. This software allows you to read a journal like an e-book, so you can look through the whole journal rather than just individual articles. There is also an app so you can use it easily on your phone or other mobile device.

You can find individual journal articles to read online by doing a quick search in LibrarySearch. Try searching for a key word or phrase connected with your research topic, e.g. “corporate social responsibility”. See our quick guide for more information.

Financial Times FT.com: Online version of the Financial Times offering the latest UK and international business, finance, economic and political news, comment and analysis. Sign up with your university CCCU email address and password to access additional content, including special in-depth industry and regional reports. Once registered, you can access via mobile devices both on and off campus.

Lexis+ Newspapers UK: Online access to all national and regional newspapers covering the last twenty years.

There are lots of databases that contain articles about business and management, and they are all available via Library Search – just click on the Find databases A to Z link in the left-hand menu and you will see an alphabetical list. Browse the list until you find the one you want. Remember to log in to Library Search access the full-text of the articles.

The most useful databases for your subject include:

Business Source Premier: A major business research database, providing access to over 2,100 full text journals covering the subject areas of marketing, management, finance, accounting and economics. Additional full-text, non-journal content includes market research reports, industry reports, country reports, company profiles and SWOT analyses.

Emerald Management e-Journals: Powerful business research tool providing instant access to over 35,000 full text articles from Emerald’s international management portfolio, complete with full text archives back to 1994. Subject coverage spans a spectrum of management disciplines including: strategy; leadership; library and information management; marketing and human resource management; plus a substantial number of engineering, applied science and technology titles.

Henry Stewart Business and Management Journals: Collection of 22 business and management journals, with over 7,500 peer-reviewed online vocational articles, case studies, and applied research from practitioners and scholars. Subjects covered include marketing, management, finance and banking, real estate, and digital business.

Mintel Reports: From the world’s leading market intelligence agency, this database provides market research, market analysis, competitive intelligence, product intelligence and lots of useful data.

Mintel Trends: Consumer trend tracking, analysis, and interpretation of changes in culture markets, brands, and consumer behaviour.

SAGE Journals: Contains full-text articles from over 1,000 journals across all disciplines, including economics, management and marketing.

Taylor and Francis Online Journals: Large multi-disciplinary database providing full-text access to Taylor and Francis and Routledge journals from 1997 onwards.

World Advertising Research Center (WARC): An online service offering advertising best practice, evidence and insights from the world’s leading brands. Also includes company profiles, articles, case studies and research on key marketing topics. Log in via Open Athens.

Kanopy is a great video-streaming service which includes a number of documentaries. Plus, we have access to Box of Broadcasts (BoB) which archives British TV and radio broadcasts. A great feature is that you can take clips of programmes and put them in your presentations or analyse the transcripts.

There are a lot of brilliant websites that may be relevant to your studies, but there are also many that are not, so it is essential to evaluate the material carefully to decide whether they are scholarly enough.

The British Library’s Business and Management Portal – will help you find high quality management research publications. You will need to register to view most of the content but this is straightforward. You will not be able to view the full text of journal articles so after identifying useful articles you will need to check LibrarySearch to see if you can access the article you need.

Office for National Statistics – provides statistical data on the economy, population and society at a national and local level.
