Augustine House ceremony
Celebrating one of the proudest days of your life at the award winning Augustine House. We explain what you need to know before the day and on the day itself.
Preparing for the day
You will receive an email invitation, sent to the same email addresses that is held on your student record (both personal and CCCU email address).
Submit your RSVP, purchase guest tickets and confirm your attendance
In order to attend your graduation you are required to complete an online RSVP eight weeks prior to your ceremony.Whilst completing the online RSVP you have the opportunity to purchase your allotted two guest tickets, priced at £12 per guest.
Award Ceremony RSVP confirmation email
You will receive an Award Ceremony RSVP confirmation email (to the email you provided in your RSVP) confirming your attendance in the week following the RSVP deadline.
The email will include:
- Confirmation of your ceremony time
- Links to graduand and guest timetables and information sheets for the day (including maps of the campus and city centre and car park information)
- Confirmation of the number of guaranteed guest tickets you have purchased in the initial period of ticket sales
- Details of any online sales of additional guest tickets with guidance for purchasing (these are subject to availability and not guaranteed). Information outlining the scheduled date and time for sale of additional tickets can also be found on the Your Ceremony Details and Ticket Purchase section. Tickets (if available) can be purchased by visiting the same web pages on the date of additional ticket sales.

Award Ceremony Final Confirmation email
One week prior to the Award Ceremony you will receive a final confirmation email, you will need to bring this email with you on the day of your ceremony to collect your guest tickets at the ticket collection desk.
The final confirmation email will include:
- The total number of guest tickets that you have purchased – you will need to present a copy of this email at the ticket collection desk on the day of your ceremony for your guest tickets
- Details of any guest tickets that may be available for you to purchase on the day of your ceremony (these are subject to availability and not guaranteed)
Hire your graduation gown
Graduations are an important celebratory event, and our experience is they are much appreciated by our students and their guests. Part of the celebration is for all those who are taking part in the ceremony to dress appropriately. Academic dress (consisting of robe, hood and hat which together we call a ‘gown’) is mandatory for those taking part in the ceremony. A student must wear a Canterbury Christ Church University gown appropriate to the level of qualification for which they are being presented, even if the student already holds a higher qualification. National dress may be worn.
Gowns are hired via our official suppliers, Ede & Ravenscroft. It is important to note Ede & Ravenscroft require 3 weeks’ notice to hire a gown so order yours in plenty of time. You should note that a student arriving in inappropriate academic dress or not gowned will be unable to join the procession and will not be presented for their award during the ceremony.

On the day
On the day ticket and gown collection and graduand registration
On the day of your Award Ceremony your guest tickets will be available for you to collect from Augustine House.
Gowning, photography and ticket collection will be available from 2 hours before the start of your ceremony.
You will be advised of your seat and procession number (the number in which you will be presented for your award).
Student registration closes 30 minutes before the start of your ceremony and you must have registered for your name to be called in the ceremony.
The Augustine House awards ceremonies start at 10:15, 12:45 and 15:15 and last approx. 45 minutes.
Please refer to the online timetables that will be released after the RSVP deadline. The timetables will contain specific timings for your ceremony.
Celebratory Drinks follow the ceremony.
Getting to the Graduation and parking
Please allow plenty of time to travel to Augustine House for your Award Ceremony. We recommend checking the latest traffic news.
No parking is available at Augustine House or on campus. Please visit the Canterbury City Council website to find out the location of pay and display car parks and Park and Rides across the city.
What to do if you are running late
If you are running slightly late you should make your way to be gowned on the second floor and head to the hall as soon as possible, please note that students arriving late are not guaranteed to graduate.
In the case of emergency or for any reason you are sure to miss the ceremony do not panic. Log a call with the i-zone and we will contact you after the ceremonies regarding the option of deferral.
You are able to defer/postpone graduation and attend another event generally within a year. If you choose to defer, this can only occur once you have received your invitation. It is at the discretion of the Graduation and Events Office as to which date you may defer to.

Graduation gown collection
Gowns should be pre-ordered via the Ede & Ravenscroft website. For details of your gown, check the Your Ceremony Details and Ticket Purchase section.
Your gown will be ready for collection on the day of the event and staff from Ede & Ravenscroft (the gowning suppliers) will be available to help you dress.
Gowns will be available to collect from Augustine House, Second Floor.

On the day of your graduation photography studios will set up in AH3.31 on the third floor of Augustine House. The studios will be available to visit both before and after the ceremony. Our photography suppliers will also be present inside Augustine Hall to capture the moment you receive your award and these photos will be available to view and purchase after the ceremony. Photography packages can be pre-ordered via Ede & Ravenscroft. Alternatively you can pay on the day or order your photographs retrospectively via Ede & Ravenscroft’s website.
Seating and the ceremony
Students will be seated in a separate area to guests. You will be advised of you procession and seat number prior to the ceremony. Students will grouped alphabetically (surname order) by programme of study.
Guests are not allocated specific seats for ceremonies. Seating in Augustine Hall is not tiered, therefore we regret that we cannot guarantee that you will have a full view of the proceedings. We recommend you arrive well in advance of the ceremony to ensure a good view. Space for a wheelchair/mobility scooter should be booked in advance via logging a call with the i-zone (email@example.com) in order to ensure that we can accommodate your requirements.
Children and babies
The ceremony may not be suitable for infants and young children and we therefore would recommend that children do not attend.
If you do decide to bring your children they must hold a ticket. This ensures that the congregation numbers remain within the Health and Safety guidelines, set down by both the Dean & Chapter for the Cathedral and the University.
If your child becomes distressed, we may ask you to leave the ceremony for a short period, so that other people are not disturbed.
Please note that there are no cloakroom facilities at Award Ceremony events and luggage cannot be left unattended.

Visit the University's Bookshop, which has a pop up shop located in Augustine House on the day of the Award Ceremony with a permanent shop located at the Canterbury Campus, in the Laud building.
