Performance Lecture Series: Elegy

Arts and Culture, General
Wednesday 8 December 2021 (18:00-19:30)

The Centre for Practice Research in the Arts and School of Creative Arts and Industries presents: Elegy, a film by professional artists Ash Mukherjee and Giles Toller set to an original score by composer Priti Paintal.

Ash Mukherjee is a dance artist and co-director, Giles Toller is a photographer, film maker and creative director and Priti Paintal is a composer of crosscultural music. Elegy was created in Margate and is a dance film about grief and regeneration. Inspired by Anthony Gormley’s sculpture ‘Another Time’ and the emotional charge around its physical space, the healing power of grief is explored through Bharatanatyam and butoh dance.

During the performance lecture, the group of professional artists will talk about the inspirations for the work, their creative and conceptual process, arts pieces that informed the work and how the collaboration began and developed. There will also be a discussion around the impact of arts on health and wellbeing.
