QiSS recognition Scheme

Quality in Study Support Recognition Scheme

The QiSS Recognition Scheme is an integral part of the drive to promote quality in study support. It provides public recognition that the standards embodied in the Extending Learning Opportunities; a framework for self-evaluation in study support (ELO - revised 2013) are being met

We base our approach to quality assurance on self-evaluation and peer scrutiny, using key indicators set out in the ELO for Study Support.

The ELO consists of First Steps and the QA Framework. The document focuses on individual organisations, ie schools and other educational providers to reflect the way that Study Support is being strategically developed at local level.

 The Scheme:

  • Can be offered as a flexible package of training and support for schools, LAs and other educational providers to achieve the three categories of good practice, as set out in the ELO, systematically to assist planning, review and development;
  • Is based on peer scrutiny of the outcomes of self evaluation.
  • Over 2000 schools and other eductional providers have been QiSS accredited, of which 33 schools and 5 Clusters currently hold the highest level of Advanced.
  • Can accommodate clusters of schools who collaborate in providing out of school hours learning.
