Research and Enterprise

Research and Enterprise in the Faculty of Education supports the development of groups and individuals who are education and education related professionals in critically understanding and appraising educational principles, theories, research, policies and practice. Our work is designed to be responsive, reciprocal and organic, based upon the values we as educators hold most dear.

How do we know what’s true? How do know what’s real? Can we say whether humans are special or just biological beings that happen to be roaming around on a planet for a while? Can a robot be a good friend?

The Epistemic Insight Initiative (EI) is a national research and curriculum innovation strategy led by the Faculty of Education at Canterbury Christ Church University. Within the EI Initiative, teachers, student teachers and tutors are collaborating on ground-breaking research to design and test strategies to engage school students in more dialogue about Big Questions.

The National Institute of Christian Education Research is a centre in the Faculty of Education at Canterbury Christ Church University. Our aim is to develop world-leading research in areas of interaction between Christianity, worldviews and education.

Our work is a clear sign of the faculty’s commitment to the Anglican foundation of the university, and its vision of a deeper and broader vision of education, with a research focus on ethos, character, virtues, human rights, spirituality, worldviews education and faith. We promote research to inform the contribution of these areas to the public understanding of education.

Research with our partners & the community

Partner organisations often approach us for support and development activity as they undertake action research in their own settings.

Action research is often a way of exploring current practice across a school or setting, undertaken by the staff who actually work there.
