Helen came to HE from the Primary Sector where she worked for a number of years as a class teacher and in roles as school SENCO and science co-ordinator. At Canterbury Christ Church University, as well as teaching on undergraduate and MA education programmes in the department of Childhood Studies, Helen has been involved in strategic development activity at the university. As a member of the Education Faculty Staff Development team she contributed to the University internal review process and significantly developed Induction and Mentoring provision for all staff.
The opportunity to work with university and teaching colleagues in Malaysia and to work closely with colleagues and students from European universities on learning development projects as well as organising and leading students and staff on the Faculty's annual study visit to South India, has enabled Helen to consider popular notions of ' key' qualitites, behaviours and environments for learning, from a range of cultural perspectives and value systems.
Helen's ideas, understanding and interests about learning have inevitably developed from these rich and varied personal and professional experiences and are commonly reflected in her teaching and activity and through her many conversations with students and colleagues.
