Gill joined CCCU in 2012 moving from Barton Court Grammar School. There she spent 7 years working in the role of Primary Languages Coordinator where her main focus was to train, motivate, and facilitate networking opportunities for teachers of primary languages in the Canterbury city and coastal area. She was a general primary practitioner for 15 years before that.
At Canterbury Christ Church, Gill works with BA and post-graduate primary education students on a range of different pathways.
She is currently studying for an MA in Education.
Her main interest lies in developing student teachers' motivation, confidence and pedagogical approaches to deliver effective primary languages lessons.
Research and knowledge exchange
Gill is a member of the Creativity: innovation and curriculum research group.
Along with colleague, Vikki Schulze, she runs the Canterbury ALL primary languages hub.
She takes great pleasure from arranging opportunities for Y primary languages student teachers to work with pupils in local primary schools to develop their pedagogy.
Gill continues to deliver INSET in local primary schools and has recently delivered CPD to primary teachers from around Kent.
Teaching and subject expertise
Gill is an active member of ALL.
She runs the local ALL Canterbury hub for primary languages.
Whilst her first degree is in German and French, Gill's real interest lies in knowing how languages work so she enjoys the challenge of learning new languages and writing systems as well as appreciating the benefits of British Sign Language.
Over the years Gill has delivered workshops on many aspects of primary languages at a number of national conferences.
