Profile summary

I am a committed educationalist currently working as a senior lecturer in Religious Education at Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) on their 11-18 and 7-14 RE PGCE programmes continuing the role in teacher training that has been common thread throughout my work as a teacher in schools. I supplement this with roles teaching on the BA Education Studies course in years 1 and 3 and as a professional tutor for the Schools Direct programme at the University.

In addition to this I am currently engaged in my own MPhil/PhD research exploring how students talk online. The current title for this is 'can we use students' digitial literacy for religious literacy?' I am supervised by Professor Trevor Cooling.

More widely I jointly lead the Kent & Medway RE Hub alongside Dr Bob Bowie, an initiative supported by Culham St Gabriels Trust to promote and support the RE network in the local area. I also continue to be involved with The Brilliant Club both in their scholar’s programme as a PhD Tutor as well as through a flagship pilot project entitled ‘University Learning in Schools’ to design, deliver and share curriculum materials based on cutting-edge PhD research. Working across a broad spectrum of educational programmes ensures I am constantly encountering new ideas and developing a large network of contacts with whom I share and develop good practice in education.

Research and knowledge exchange

I am presently working alongside Dr Lynn Revell and Dr Hazel Bryan on a research project looking at Faith and Professionalism.

Teaching and subject expertise

My current teaching includes both subject specific elements e.g. the RE Curriculum Studies programme for the PGCE as well as more general teaching on issues in Education e.g. Sociology of Education and 'Fads & Fashions in Teaching'.

I am an executive member of AULRE. I am also a member of NATRE.
