Profile summary

I started teaching in Primary School in 1994 with a specialism in early years education, special educational needs and inclusion, leadership and personal and social development.My focus has been on developing an enriching and inclusive learning experience regardless of the age of the child. After 13 years of primary school teaching and senior leadership I worked for Medway Council and an Early Years Inclusion Advisor.Since 2010 I have worked in higher Education as a Senior Lecturer teaching on Foundation, BA and MA Early Childhood studies programmes within the Faculty of Education, School of Childhood Studies and Educational Science.

Throughout my career my interest has been on developing learning and teaching and professional development so I have been invloved in staff development (Mentoring student teachers and NQTs, appraisals and professional development of teachers and teaching assistants.I am passionate about partnership working and learning and have led at strategic level the development of a more integrated and inter-professional approach when supporting children and familis. I believe in social justice and education as a human right for all so have been part of inclusion programmes at a local authority and grass roots level.

In addition to teaching I am studying for a PhD - I am using critical theory to explore  the emancipatory potential of H/E for early years students from a feminist, perspective.

My academic interests include effective learning and teaching at H/E level, Emancipatory potential of H/E,Inclusion and diversity - social justice, Leadership in Early Years, Special Educational Needs, professional identity,student and tutor voice,human rights education and Communities of Practice.

Teaching and subject expertise

My teaching expertise includes diversity, equality and inclusion, effective learning and teaching, human rights education, special educational needs,global and international perspectives of education, leadership in Early Years Sector, Professional identity and status - feminist perspective, sociology and politics of education


I am a Fellow of Higher Educational Authority, Learning and Teaching Enhancement Programme (Mentor), Community of Practice (Early Years Directorate).

External activities

I am interested in global and international perspectives and partnerships. I have represented CCCU on 2 international visits to Luneberg, Germany and Kerala, India.
