Profile summary

Prior to joining the university I led ICT departments in a number of secondary schools and worked with two local authorities implementing ICT solutions and leading staff development for secondary, primary and special schools.  I sat on development groups for a number of Key Stage 4 qualifications in ICT and am currently an examiner for a GCSE exam board.  My particular interests are in Computer Science and ICT curriculum development, both as a subject and cross curricular tool; a variety of assessment issues, the development of mrntoring in schools and of course in the career-long development of primary and secondary teachers.

Research and knowledge exchange

In my role as a Partnership Development Leader I coordinate the Education Faculty's relationship with Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences, Norway (HiOA).  In thsi role I am facilitating the development of a number of research initiatives, student and tutor exchanges and the development of common curriculum modules.

I have undertaken research studies in the use of e-Portfolios in Initial Teacher Education, using social media to support student teachers and the use of electronic submission and feedback systems.  I developed a PGCE route for students on employment and school-based initial teacher education programmes and work particularly with schools in the Ashford area to recruit and train students through the School Direct and School Direct (Salaried) Training Programmes.

Teaching and subject expertise

As Programme Director for EBITT provision I developed a range of highly personal routes into teaching which offer the flexibility and outcomes required both by students and their partner schools.  This includes developing QTS and PGCE routes for Steiner Schools (both in primary and secondary phases), a fast-track Assessment Only route to QTS, customised Schools Direct provision for schools outside Kent and development of a specialist Troops to Teaching programme.

I am currently developing this work further both through contributions to the School Direct, PGCE and Troops to Teacher Programmes and through my roles as a Partnership Development Lead and Secondary Area Lead for Maidstone and West Kent.

I am also a facilitator with the Mentor Development Programme, working particularly with schools in the West Kent Area.

External activities

I am a Sponsor Governor at The John Wallis Academy, where I chair the Teaching and Learning Sub-Committee.  I am a Member of the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors and a member of ITTE, the Association for Information Technology in Teacher Education.
