I am currently Programme Director and Senior Lecturer in the Childhhood Studies Department, teaching on the Foundation Degree and BA Hons Degree in Childhhod Studies.
Prior to this, I worked in the Post Graduate Initial Teacher Education Department, teaching on the Professional Studies and Mathematics elements of the programme.
I have a BA (ed) Hons from Canterbury Christ Church University. Before joining Canterbury Christ Church University as a lecturer, I worked in Primary Education, teaching across the Foundation Stage, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two in three schools in South East Kent. During this time I was subject leader for Literacy, PHSE and also Attendance Officer. I subsequently joined the Advisory Service of Kent Local Authority as a Primary Mathematics Consultant, working across the county to support the teaching and learning of Mathematics in Primary Schools. During this time, I studied for and gained an MA in Literacy and Learning, also at Canterbury Christ Church University.
My main interests include Mathematics development in young children and talk for learning across the curriculum.
I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Research and knowledge exchange
I am currently working with a colleague on research related to 'Block Play' and mathematical learning.
Teaching and subject expertise
My areas of expertise are Primary English and Primary Mathematics.
On the Foundation Degree, I have teach students Growth and Development, Communication and Literacy, Practical Mathemtaics, Theories of Learning, Learning Mathematics and Language and Learning.
On the BA (Hons) Childhood Studies, I have teach Contemporary Childhood Issues and Contemporary Learning Theory.
Publications and research outputs
I have contributed two chapters (Play and mathematics and Children representing their mathematics) to an Early Years (0-8) book, published by Sage in November 2013.
I have contributed a chapter examining Digital Literacies to 'Challenge and Change for the Early Years' Workforce', published by Sage in 2014.
My chapter on Children Exploring Mathematics will be published in 'Exploring Learning 0 - 8 years' in December 2016.
