16 November 2022, the Verena Holmes building, Canterbury campus

We are pleased to be able to bring you the rescheduled Learning and Teaching Conference which will now take place on Wednesday 16 November, starting at 12:30pm.

This year’s Conference will focus on “How our past informs our present and future: learning communities at CCCU”. These workshops will follow a keynote from “Building back Communities: Our Compassionate Brains on a New HE Curriculum” from Associate Professor, Learning and Teaching at the University of Hertfordshire, Dr Theo Gilbert.

Dr Gilbert’s research on the psycho biological nature of compassion provides new solutions to supporting student mental wellbeing and address the BAME awarding gap; he won the Advance HE/Times Higher Education award for Most Innovative Teacher 2018.

CCCU colleagues and their students will present, in the form of 15-20-minute talks/interactive workshops, on successful interventions that can inspire us all. Hear about how students in the Business School are being prepared to enter graduate recruitment processes more confidently; how accounting software is being taught in a way that encourages compassion; some of the latest research on the BME awarding gap and prepare to rethink labels in HE. Or you might want to book into the interactive workshops using yoga as an embodied breathing practice or using poetry as a refuge of compassion with students during challenging times!

Building on staff feedback from previous conferences, we will have a dedicated space to share and connect with colleagues throughout the conference with tea and coffee available. LTE staff will be on hand to discuss your learning and teaching needs and gather your thoughts in the development of CCCU’s 2023-2030 Learning and Teaching Strategy.

This year's winners of the University Teaching Excellence Awards and new HEA Fellows will also be celebrated.
