Saturday 20 January|10am-4pm Tutor: Victoria Field | Canterbury campus | £42 Reading poetry and writing in response is a way of engaging deeply with the human condition and can illuminate the ways in which we see ourselves, others and the world around us. Poets have often written about perception, a sense of who we are in the world and also what it means to feel at odds with world around us. Ideas of knowledge, sanity, madness, perceptions of time and geography can all coalesce in poems. This day school will examine notions of the ‘mind’ through a close reading of mostly contemporary poems and some short prose extracts. Participants will be invited to do some writing in response to the poems but no previous experience of creative writing is required. We will reflect on the process of what emerges rather than any literary merit. For anyone who is writing more formally, the day will generate much new material and ideas. This day school is the first of a series of three which can be booked separately – see also Poetry of Mind, Body and Spirit 3rd February and 10th March. Victoria Field is a writer and trained poetry therapist, more details on www.thepoetrypractice.co.uk
