Innovate UK introduced Accelerated Knowledge Transfer in 2022, designed to create short-term collaborations between a business partner and a UK knowledge base to rapidly inject innovation capacity.
In 2023, CCCU and eXroid Technology Ltd (SME that specialises in electrotherapy as a treatment for haemorrhoids in the UK) were awarded funding to complete a four-month project working on product development to overcome limitations in their electrotherapy device.
Dr Soumya Manna and Dr Hany Hassanin from the School of Engineering, Technology and Design provided supervision for two CCCU graduates who delivered the project. They worked alongside eXroid’s Quality Assurance Manager and Medical Director, with project support from CCCU’s Department of Enterprise and Engagement.
Michael Wilshaw, eXroid’s Managing Director stated, “The project provided a development opportunity that we would not have been able to progress for at least a further 12 months without the university knowledge process and expertise. The work has challenged our preconceptions and both proven and disproven options for us to take going forward. The work is now the foundation for a global product line which we hope to develop and take to market within the next 24 months.”
