Read Maisie's top five reasons why she loves studying Business Management at CCCU.

My name’s Maisie, and I’m currently studying Business Management at Canterbury Christ Church University.

Here are my top five things about my course.

The range of modules and practical experience available

As part of Business Management, a wide variety of modules are available. Lots of these have practical aspects, as well as theory-based learning. Employability Skills was a module that stood out, as it included great opportunities such as personalised support with my CV and cover letter, and a mock assessment centre to practise for graduate recruitment.

TIP! Get involved with all the opportunities the course offers you. There’s so much going on at CCCU so make sure you find out what’s happening.

Knowledgeable and supportive lecturers

All the academic staff teaching on my course show a true passion for their subject and put their all into teaching. Our seminars were engaging, relevant, and fun. Although they were busy, lecturers would always make the time to address any concerns or questions that I had.

TIP! Your lecturers want you to do well. Make use of their teaching and support for a better chance of top grades.

The opportunity to do a placement year

An option is given to you to do a placement year between 2nd and 3rd year on the Business Management course. Support is given to help prepare you for the search of a placement. Then, once you’ve found a position, you spend the entire year at your placement, which gives you real insight into a real-life working environment.

Placements are a great opportunity to learn a wide range of transferable skills and obtain practical experience in a sector you’re interested in. It also looks great on your CV!

TIP! When looking for a placement, don’t give up - the right one for you will be out there.

Community within the course

As well as larger lectures, there are smaller sessions called seminars where you can discuss theory in a more manageable group. Seminar sessions are usually quite informal, which is a great opportunity to form better relationships with classmates and lecturers.

They’re also great for discussing and debating topics that really interest you, and it’s interesting to bounce ideas off your classmates.

TIP! Get involved with class discussions. Not only does this help further your understanding of the content, it also helps to build bonds with your peers.

Warm and inviting campus

There are so many great spots on campus that can be used to study or catch up with new friends. CCCU is spoilt for choice when it comes to food as well; there are lots of affordable cafes, and there’s a large food court on campus.

If you fancy going out for lunch, then our campus is in the city centre so it’s just a few minutes’ walk from the high street.

TIP! Make use of the time between sessions to check out the campus facilities. It’s also a great time to chat with your classmates and work on group projects.
