Physical description

Levy thought herself unattractive and was described by Harry Quilter in "Amy Levy: A Reminiscence and a Criticism" (1892) as "A small dark girl of unmistakably Jewish type, with eyes that seemed too large for the delicate features."

Did you know?

Levy was the first Jewish woman in England to be cremated. Dogged by depression throughout her short life, she committed suicide by asphyxiation aged twenty eight on 10 September 1889.
