Physical description

Carolyn Burke notes that as a child Loy had "dark hair cropped like a boy's". In her late thirties Loy dressed fashionably, "her long black hair was parted in the middle and twisted in a low chignon - her intricate tortoiseshell earrings, elegant dress, and willowy figure set her apart" (Becoming Modern: The Life of Mina Loy). Loy's daughter described her as "a tall very slim woman in flowery clothes [and] large hats" (Burke, ibid).

Did you know?

Loy's second husband Arthur Cravan disappeared without trace, presumed drowned while testing a boat in which he planned to escape their life of poverty. Loy was four months pregnant with her fourth child (the first by Cravan).
