In the Field
Archaeology at Canterbury Christ Church University is not confined to our lecture theatres. All students on the Archaeology Programme undertake fully funded field placements in Years 2 and 3.
Students on the Single and Combined Honours Archaeology programmes undertake fully funded fieldwork placements in Years 2 and 3. We offer our own bespoke field school in East Sussex ‘The Culver Archaeological Project’; it has full facilities, and you will receive training in all aspects of field archaeology by professional archaeologists. The placements provide training in key archaeological fieldwork methods, including:
- Excavation
- On-site recording techniques
- Survey and geophysics
- Finds processing
- Environmental sampling
To date, our students have participated in archaeological research projects in Kent, Sussex, Glamorgan, Monmouthshire, Yorkshire, and as far afield as Crete.
