Profile summary

I am part of the CATE winner Academy for Sustainable Futures team, as an Education for Sustainability Lead. As a Conservation Biologist my research focus on human dimensions of conservation translocations, large carnivores' conservation, and the role of zoos in engaging people with nature, for the conservation of biodiversity.  Our interdisciplinary team of researchers includes colleagues from Education and Psychology.

Since 2018 I have chaired the Human-Wildlife Interactions Working Group of the IUCN/SSC Conservation Translocation Specialist Group.  I am a member of the Ecology Research Group.

Research and knowledge exchange

2018- present, Chair of the IUCN/SSC-RSG Human-Wildlife Interactions Working Group 

2006-2018, chair of the Wildlife & People Initiative and associated Research Group (part of the Ecology Research Group, CCCU): fosters discussion and research on topics concerning the relationships between people and wildlife, with collaboration between diverse organizations within and outside of the UK.

Teaching and subject expertise

2016-2020, lecturer in Conservation Biology, CCCU: contributing to the MSc in Applied Ecology and Environmental Management, devising and teaching lecturers in the modules Applied Ecology and Conservation and Environmental Management and Sustainability.

2004-2015, lecturer in BiologyCCCUsuccessfully designed modules, delivered lectures, field excursions and laboratory teaching, and produced learning support materials aiming to improve the learning experience in varied modules
