Profile summary

I joined the Early Childhood Studies teaching team in October 2015, from a Further Education teaching post. Prior to this, I worked in a range of early years settings, in a number of different roles. These roles included Early Years Teaching, management and mentoring within the sector.

Currently within the university, I teach on a range of courses, across Levels 4-6 and on a variety of modules. I have also worked as a link tutor for Early Years Teacher Trainees on Early Years Initial Teacher Training (EYITT) programmes and have also been a mentor development tutor for staff who support these students during their placements. My research interests include the voice of the child in research, and the concept of environments in early years settings.

Research and knowledge exchange

I am currently undertaking a piece of research with a children's centre in Kent, exploring the value of volunteers who support and run family groups within the centre. This research involves the perspectives of the centre manager, the volunteers and the parents and families who use the groups.

With colleagues from the Faculty, I am also undertaking research currently, exploring flexible working. This project is being conducted as a 'Listening Project', due for completion at the end of 2021.

Teaching and subject expertise

I am the Treasurer of the UK Branch of OMEP (World Organisation for Early Childhood) and a member of the Executive Committee for the charity.
