Matthew Bourne New Adventures Dance Company
A Dance Education graduate: James Middleton was an ambassador for New Adventures Dance Company and the Re:Bourne Project.
This project engaged around four hundred boys across the region in dance workshops. All these boys were invited to audition for the Lord of the Flies performances at The Marlowe Theatre which ran from Wednesday 24th to Saturday 27th September 2014.
Twenty two boys were successful at audition including a Dance Education student, Ben Hughes, who was in the young ensemble cast and performed alongside eight professional New Adventures dancers.
Subject Lead for dance Dr Angela Pickard was able to offer use of our dance studio for the rehearsals of the young ensemble cast and full company before the performance run at The Marlowe Theatre. In exchange Dance Education students were offered access to company rehearsals and tech, free tickets to watch the show and dance workshops.
Helen Prosser from New Adventures Dance Company said:
"New Adventures and Re:Bourne are delighted to bring their production of Lord of the Flies to Canterbury and the Marlowe Theatre. This ground breaking project has engaged around four hundred boys and young men from across the region with twenty two in the young ensemble cast performing alongside eight professional New Adventures dancers.
Our project is all about supporting and nurturing an interest and passion for dance, especially for boys, so to be in an environment that is also working towards the same aims seems absolutely appropriate.
Our young ensemble cast includes dance students from the University and we hope this project continues to see an interest in dance grow in the future."
"We are extremely grateful to Dr. Angela Pickard and the School of Music and Performing Arts at Canterbury Christ Church University who have provided a rehearsal space for the full company."
