Stina is a professional flautist with many years’ experience teaching at music colleges, privately, and at UK universities. Her solo and chamber music career includes performances at the Proms, the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, and many televised and radio broadcasts from festivals in the UK, Europe, former Soviet Union and US. She is active as a session musician and has played on many feature film scores and radio and TV adverts. Her orchestral career includes freelancing with the London Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, English National Opera, Philharmonia, and many years as principal flute with Opera North.
She regularly commissions new works as part of the duo Music Box: Flute and Electronics, with Michael Bunce, performing in spaces such as the Turner Contemporary, at music festivals, and improvising in collaboration with contemporary dancers and visual artists. She is currently writing a thesis exploring themes of ease, flow and confidence in performance, as part of an MA at Regent’s University London.
Stina’s teaching style is relaxed and approachable. Her comprehensive knowledge of the flute repertoire enables her to structure a flexible, effective and manageable practice routine, and incorporates the latest research findings from all fields to enhance ease and confidence in performance. She has a 100% success rate across all exam boards and teaches all repertoire from baroque to contemporary, improvisatory and jazz, encompassing solo, chamber and orchestral works.
