Campus: Canterbury
I graduated from CCCU in 2014 with a joint honours degree in French and English language and Communication.
I’ve always had an interest in learning languages. I chose CCCU as the idea of the course only being three years rather than four very much appealed to me, and spending my second year abroad where I studied at the Université Catholique de Lille, was an incomparable experience.
In 2014 I studied for a Master’s degree in Translation at the University of Surrey, with my dissertation focusing on censorship in translation. The careers service at CCCU was very supportive when I made my decision to carry on my studies to Master’s level and my degrees have opened many doors for me.
In 2015 I took a nine month internship learning about translation project management, before moving onto my current role as a translation coordinator for an international scientific and technical publishing company in London. My role involves using my French daily: communicating with French authors, organising the translation of their books, and providing quality assurance throughout. I never could have imagined that a degree in French and English Language would lead me to working in publishing, but the skills I gained from my time at University and the foundation that the degree provided have opened up many career pathways.
