Grace Deatker

Graduate

School: School of Language Studies and Applied Linguistics

Campus: Canterbury

I chose to study French with Film, Radio and Television studies at CCCU because it allowed me to combine my passion for languages with my interest in creative media. During my time on the French programme, I was able to study a wide variety of interesting topics as well as gaining first-hand experience of living and working abroad during the three-month summer placement. Translation modules were offered throughout all three years of the course and during this time I was able to discover and refine my passion for translation.

Towards the end of my time at CCCU, my tutors encouraged me to continue my studies and gain an MSc in translation studies at the University of Glasgow. Now I am working in a bilingual preparatory school and have set myself up as a freelance translator on the side. I also volunteer as a translator for the United Nations and as a translator and proof reader for a free online publication called Le Journal International.
