Liturgy, Organ and Electronics

The project supports the creation, performance and publication of music for two liturgical events: a high Mass with newly-composed music for organ and electronics and a Mystery Play.

The project supports the creation, performance and publication of music for two liturgical events: a high Mass with newly-composed music for organ and electronics and a Mystery Play. The two events will link professional composers, performers and a professional poet with a community choir and and school group from St Matthew Academy who will create original art work responding to the compositions. A CD will be created, making the music accessible as a liturgical, teaching and musical resource for other parishes, choirs and schools. It extends a previous KE project from 2014-15 which focused on non-liturgical repertoire.

The project aims to create two unique liturgical events which express the beliefs and faith of the community in Catford through the medium of organ and electronics. By capturing this as a CD release the project also creates the opportunity to further share the outcomes of the collaboration with communities further afield, and document the work undertaken between the professionals, researcher, and the community. The involvement of community musicians and of school children in the project further seeks to widen the number of people involved in presenting and disseminating the music through performance, and it is hoped this will encourage them to develop this type of performance beyond the boundaries of the project, supported by the CD resource.
