Tim is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Media, Art and Design who teaches on the Film, Radio and Television programme. He is an active documentary filmmaker with research interests currently focussed on amateur cine in the Canterbury area.
Research and knowledge exchange
Tim is currently researching amateur cine in the Canterbury area between the 1920s and 1960s. This research has led to the discovery of several collections of early amateur films that provide a unique record of Canterbury before the Second World War and show the early development of amateur filmmaking. Tim has given a number of screenings locally and has formed close links with the Cathedral Archives and the Canterbury Museums.
Teaching and subject expertise
Tim teaches a range of practical hands-on modules focussing on live TV studio production and traditional stop-motion model animation.
Publications and research outputs
Tim is an active documentary filmmaker. He began a major research project to collect, digitise, archive and evaluate historical amateur film made in the Canterbury region. He discovered a large number of films, several of which are of national or international significance. These include scenes of T.S. Eliot at the first performance of Murder in the Cathedral and unique film of Count Zborowski, the inspiration behind Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. These exciting discoveries have led to the production of the following documentaries that he has produced and directed:
