The Swan Consort present Alastair Borthwick’s Missa Brevis alongside the English Tudor polyphony that inspired it. With favourite works by John Taverner, Thomas Tallis, and William Byrd, this coming together of old and new explores the emergence of the Latin Choral mass in England, with readings from Old and Middle English sources. This concert will be followed by a Masterclass – open to the public, free of charge – in which the Artistic Director and consort singers will coach CCCU students (with special guests the Choral Scholars of the Cathedral) in solo and ensemble singing. The masterclass will run from 3.00-4.30 pm, in St Gregory’s. Please feel free to drop in and out as you wish. It will be a fascinating opportunity to see a professional ensemble at work with tomorrow’s musicians.
