InPlace is a third-party application.

InPlace is provided by QuantumIT to Canterbury Christ Church University to manage student placements across the University.

InPlace is hosted on QuantumIT’s Multi-tenant AWS SaaS Platform within UK.

Our aim is for InPlace to be accessible to all those who use the system, and we continue to work towards this. We want to ensure that users find it accessible and understand the content. InPlace is used by students, placements team, academics, student supervisors, and placement providers.

Using the application

We want as many people as possible to be able to use, read and understand the content of InPlace.

This means that you should be able to:

  • Change colours, contrast levels and fonts.
  • Zoom in up to 200% without the text spilling off the screen.
  • Navigate the application using keyboard or speech recognition software.
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader

Due to InPlace being a third-party application, many aspects of its accessibility are outside of our immediate control.

InPlace is accessible on laptops, desktops, smart phones and tablets.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this application is

Most of the application is fully accessible, however users may experience issues depending on the area they are accessing.

Some images may not have a text alternative, so the information in them isn’t available to people using a screen reader.

  • Not all colour contrasts may meet sufficient contrast levels
  • Not all icons have alternative text
  • Some information is conveyed only in colour
  • When you use browser settings to customise the pages some information and functionality is lost
  • Tooltips are not always activated
  • Some table headers are blank which may cause problems with screen readers

Some images may not have a text alternative, so the information in them isn’t available to people using a screen reader. We are working with the vendor to improve these components who said that these changes will be reflected in future releases.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

Canterbury Christ Church University are working with Quantum IT to fix or provide alternatives for all issues that are we are made aware of or are identified by our internal testing and auditing processes.

Within the roadmap for this product, any future development of new services and solutions for this product will be WCAG 2.2 compliant. The vendor is looking to make non-compliant components complaint in feature releases.
