Bromley College of Further and Higher Education
The partnership between Bromley College of Further and Higher Education and Canterbury Christ Church University has developed a very productive, wide-ranging and strategic relationship. Staff and students from both institutions are working together on many projects and enjoying exciting teaching and learning experiences.
In our most recent development Bromley College of Further & Higher Education, in partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University and King's College Hospital, has received government approval to open a new University Technical College (UTC) in Bromley in 2016.
This exciting new type of secondary technical school, the first in Bromley and the only one in London and Kent to specialise in health and wellbeing sciences, will offer young people aged 14-19 the opportunity to specialise in a particular career path.
Bromley UTC will train and inspire a new generation of young people, equipping them with the technical skills demanded by employers in the sector.
‘As University sponsor of the Bromley UTC, Canterbury Christ Church University is delighted that approval has been given for the project.
‘The University sees this development as a key part of its strategic partnership with Bromley College, which is designed to create exciting new opportunities for young people, taking them on a journey through college to employment or University.
‘Christ Church will be contributing expertise in health and wellbeing, life sciences and education to the UTC.’

Teacher education internships
Bromley College in partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University offers voluntary internship placements for the Diploma in Education programme. This challenging, yet rewarding training pathway enables trainee teachers to gain teaching experience in a vibrant further education college supporting the learning of students aged from sixteen years. Many of our internees are career changers and those on placement are now training to teach in accountancy, business and management, English and functional skills, ESOL, maths, humanities, early years, art and design, travel and tourism, science, hair and beauty.
The internees are offered support and guidance by Bromley College mentors who are senior lecturers and internees are committed to one full day per week on placement during college term time. The placement, combined with the weekly Diploma in Education class effectively develops professional practice underpinned by theoretical knowledge, understanding and skills. The two year programme provides active steps into employment as an FE teacher and the college is very keen to develop the programme and offer placements in a range of college teams in the future.
