Professor Becky Huxley-Binns

Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost

I am an award-winning academic leader and legal scholar, known for fostering excellence and inclusivity through visionary leadership.

I was Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Education at the University of Hull from 2019 until 2024 with responsibility for all under- and postgraduate taught programmes, short courses and apprenticeships on the Hull campus, online and at the London Study Centre. The University was awarded Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) in 2023.

Prior to joining Hull, I was Vice Provost, Academic Enhancement at University of Law, with whole institutional responsibility for enhancement. I worked at Nottingham Trent University from 2002 to 2015, and I was appointed Professor of Legal Education and Co-Director of the Nottingham Law School Centre for Legal Education in 2013.

I am a National Teaching Fellow, Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and was UK Law Teacher of the Year 2010. I was an Office for Students (OfS) Panel Member for the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) in 2023, as well as for the Subject level TEF in 2018 and 2019. I am a Member of the Advance HE Teaching and Learning Strategic Advisory Group and Chair of the Advance HE UK Teaching Excellence Awards Advisory Panel (awarding CATE and NTFS awards). In 2015, I chaired the UK Quality Assurance Agency Law Subject Benchmark Statement Review Group (2014-2015).

As Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, I report to the Vice-Chancellor and play a major leadership role within the University, carrying out a wide range of duties related to the management of the University. I deputise for the Vice-Chancellor when necessary, and I work closely with, and am a key member of, the Senior Management Team (SMT) on the strategic direction and development of the University as a whole. I have overall responsibility for the academic and related administrative activity of the University on a day-to-day basis.

My current priorities are leading transformational change and strategic projects including the portfolio review.

I am drawn to the strong civic values of CCCU as one of the largest providers of education, training and skills to public service in the South East, but what first attracted me to CCCU was Vision 2030. It places collaboration, courage, and creativity at its heart, to enrich communities and shape sustainable futures.
