Staynton joined the University’s Governing Body on 1 August. He is currently Director D&I and Talent at Transport for London (TfL). The role includes engaging with passengers, the wider public, charitable partners, local and regional government, politicians and many others to create a world-leading, inclusive and integrated transport system. Staynton is also responsible for improving talent development, skills, diversity and inclusion within the 30,000 strong workforce and ensuring socially responsible procurement is achieved within TfL’s supply chain.
Having previously worked at director level in the NHS at Guy's and St Thomas' Foundation Trust and at Lambeth Primary Care Trust, Staynton has led on equality, tackling health inequalities, human rights, access to care and the role of the NHS as a local employer, and has also led the development of apprenticeships and other employability programmes.
He was awarded the prestigious King's Award for innovations and in 2014 was judged to be a top 50 NHS BAME pioneer in the inaugural Health Services Journal awards. He also won the Mayor’s Fund for London Award for the best provider of work experience in London, and for the best apprenticeship and widening participation programme in the Health Business Awards.
Staynton is also a board member for two charities in the fields of education and the arts.
