Find out about the programme of study for a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
Our Clinical Psychology programme was re-accredited by the BPS and HCPC in 2018. The programme has received several commendations; notably for its design, described as being ‘at the leading edge in relation to NHS priorities’ and (most recently) for service user involvement, which was seen as an example of national best practice.
The flexibility of the new programme is a particular strength, providing a greater focus on in-depth clinical skills, developing opportunities relating to leadership, considering dual service-user/professional identities, and providing specialist teaching options in the final year of study.
The programme continues to evolve within a changing NHS context. Key developments include:
The programme is underpinned by a fundamental commitment to a broad understanding of human development and its challenges, across the lifespan. This is seen as a helpful framework for understanding psychological difficulties and their relationship to biological, social, and cultural factors. This perspective is seen as complementary to traditional diagnostic classification frameworks and is viewed as an important aspect of person-centred psychological formulation.
"It is a great course to be part of as I feel the focus on the course is both on professional and personal development to help you become the best psychologist you can be. The focus on therapeutic skills means they want you to grow as a person (and not become a robot psychologist!)." Alternative Handbook for Postgraduate Courses in Clinical Psychology 2023
"I think Salomons is a good course. I feel confident now that if I was put in a workplace that I could manage the responsibilities and expectations of a Clinical Psychologist." Alternative Handbook for Postgraduate Courses in Clinical Psychology 2023
