Our students become an intrinsic part of the local community during their time at CCCU, and often beyond. We encourage our students to be thoughtful, responsible neighbours and to immerse themselves in their community, enjoying all the local area has to offer and respecting the neighbourhood they have joined.
We work with a range of partners, including Canterbury City Council, Medway Council, Kent Police, and the Students’ Union, on a range of initiatives to help our students settle into the community.
Run in partnership between The University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University, the Canterbury Street Marshals patrol popular student residential areas in Canterbury, offering support and guidance to help students stay safe and be respectful of neighbours after a night out.
Run in collaboration with a range of partners including the Police, Canterbury City Council, the Street Marshalls and the Street Pastors, the pop-up safety hubs run several times a year to help welcome and orientate our new students by providing local information and advice on staying safe on a night out in the city.
The city-wide Zero Tolerance project runs in collaboration with local partners including Kent Union and the police to train and accredit licenced trade venues to be Zero Tolerance venues. This enables them to understand and tackle harassment, making for a safer night out for all.
As part of our “Be A Good Neighbour” campaign we support the local council and Kent Police neighbourhood days, going out into the community to speak to students and to provide advice on anything from recycling and bin collections to home security and anti-social behaviour.
