Supporting Student Study
Practical support is vital for students, to assist them with their studies and enable them to make the best use of their time. All of our facilities have been introduced with this in mind. They are being constantly reviewed and up-dated to provide the best service possible. As a student of the University College you are entitled to use any of the facilities open to students at our Canterbury or Tunbridge Wells sites, as well as at your own Campus at Thanet.
The Learning Centre
The Learning Centre also houses the extensive and more traditional library of books, journals and periodicals that support the academic programmes being offered at the Thanet Campus. There is also a full range of viewing and listening facilities for reference and loanable media resources such as videos, audio-cassettes, audio CDs and CD Roms. The College subscribes to a large number of bibliographical, full-text and multi-media CD-ROMs, general and subject-specific information gateways to the internet, electronic services such as bibliographical and indexing databases, and searchable full-text databases, E-journals and full on-line periodicals. These will provide students at Thanet Campus with the most convenient way to access the latest information and thinking in their own subject areas.
At your PC or through a reserved PC you will be able to check the availability of books and other resources, reserve items and renew loans and request interlibrary loans. This facility gives you access to over 231,000 volumes and 900 periodicals from the Canterbury campus. Regular deliveries will bring your book or journal orders to Thanet so there will never be a need to make the journey yourself unless you wish to do so.
Student Study Support
Some students may need additional support with their academic studies during their time at the College. Specialist staff are on hand to provide help with study skills such as time management, note taking, and essay planning and writing. Specialist software is available in the Student Study Support Unit in Cf42. For all students, the networked PCs in the Learning Resources Centre are equipped with study skills software, enabling skills to be explored and developed as and when they are needed.
