ometimes individuals benefit from independent advice or support to allow them to manage the demands of their studies and personal life effectively.
Christ Church has been recognised as being in the most effective group of higher education providers in supporting students through their years of study, both academically and personally. Our 'drop out' rates are amongst the lowest in the country because we take care to help our students through the inevitable ups and downs of personal and academic life, which can all affect performance and the final outcome of a student's hard work over one or many years.
A comprehensive range of services helps to provide a 'safety net' so that students can cope with temporary or long term challenges and difficulties:
Student Services
The Campus Tutor, Penelope Stevens (e-mail pas11@cant.ac.uk), is the first point of contact for services such as Careers Guidance, Sports, Student Support, Counselling, etc. Please make initial contact by e-mail, or telephone her on (01843) 280600.
Dean of Chapel
The 'quiet room' on Thanet Campus is a place for rest, friendship and prayer. Services are conducted on the Campus and at Canterbury in the College's Chapel by the Dean of Chapel (Chaplain) Brian Kelly (e-mail: B.E.Kelly@cant.ac.uk). Everyone at the Thanet Campus is welcome to attend services and the many other Chapel activities that are organised throughout the year and we will keep you informed of these in advance. Brian Kelly is available to see members of the College about any matter in complete confidence. Please e-mail Brian to arrange a mutually convenient place and time to meet.
Student Welfare and Counselling
The Campus Tutor, Penelope Stevens (e-mail pas11@cant.ac.uk) has special responsibility for providing help and advice on a wide range of practical welfare issues including financial hardship, Social Security benefits, disabilities and childcare. She can also help with enquiries on student loans and access funds, and assist students to obtain College or other appropriate counselling support if appropriate. All interviews are conducted in confidence.
Personal Tutors
You will have a personal tutor in your academic department (who may also be your Programme Director in the case of smaller programmes). Your personal tutor acts as an initial point of contact to give advice on academic matters such as choice of options and assessment procedures, but will also be happy to help with any personal concerns you may have.
