Student Survey Unit

What We Do

The Student Survey Unit is responsible for eliciting students’ views and level of satisfaction with their university experience.

In the first instance the Unit is responsible for the development, delivery and analysis of the University’s annual student survey (USS) together with the National Student Survey (NSS). Both surveys are run early in the year so that every student has an opportunity to give feedback about their CCCU experience.

 Co-ordination and Quality Control

The Student Survey Unit also provides a centralised point for the consideration of cross University student related surveys which fall outside of the current arrangements for research, Knowledge Exchange and module and programme evaluation processes. This is to ensure that there is a co-ordinated approach, with appropriate ethical consideration and mechanisms for quality control.

All proposed cross University student surveys (other than faculty or departmental surveys which go through normal faculty ethics procedures) must first go through the University's Research Ethics process. The Ethics Review Checklist must be completed and submitted to the Research Office before proceeding. The checklist can be accessed at https://secure.canterbury.ac.uk/staff/Research/Ethics-Review-Check.aspx.

The Student Survey Unit makes available results from the USS and the NSS through various media accessible by university staff and students. Outcomes are fed back to students so that they are informed as to their role in influencing the ongoing development of university services and procedures.

Overall responsibility for the Student Survey Unit sits with the Vice Chancellor, Professor Robin Baker. Day to day leadership and management is provided by the Director of the Change Programme, Dr. Moira Helm.
