The aim of Student Study Support is to provide academic support to all students at the University, whatever their level of study. This support is offered on a confidential, non-judgmental basis and is independent of the various teaching departments in the University. The services of Student Study Support are provided free of charge to individuals as well as groups of students.
Student Study Support provides academic support for all students following programmes at the University, either on a part- or full-time basis. It doesn’t matter whether you are on a diploma course or studying for a postgraduate degree, a first-year or a final-year student, our services are available for you. You don’t have to be failing your course or struggling with your studies to benefit from our support!
At Student Study Support we will try and help you to help yourself. We offer a supportive atmosphere in which students can meet with our staff and take positive steps to address their learning needs.
Firstly, we don’t act as judges of your academic
performance. Neither do we act as a ‘remedial unit’, taking students only
because they are failing - many of those who use Student Study Support are
students who are doing very well but would still like to develop or enrich
their study skills, in order to do even better.
Whilst we support you in your academic work, we don’t do that work for you! We don’t write your assignments nor do we proofread them; we help you to write them. We don’t have subject-specific knowledge (except in certain cases) so we don’t help you with the content of your assignments, just the processes by which you write them.
Don’t come to Student Study Support expecting us to do all the work for you - we don’t do that either!

Specific learning difficulties
In addition, Student Study Support provides tutorial support for students with specific learning difficulties, including dyslexia, who are in receipt of the DSA. If you have any concerns regarding this matter, please contact the staff in Student Study Support by calling the i-zone on 01227 782222 or by emailing study-support@canterbury.ac.uk.

The University has procedures for supporting students with dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties and these are available from the Disability Advice Team.
