I have personal problems that are affecting my work.  Is there anyone I can talk to?

Counselling can help if you are experiencing personal problems, whether long-standing or resulting from a temporary crisis, that affect your academic or social life at University.  Deciding to see a counsellor is a positive step towards making things better for yourself.  Find out more about the Counselling Service by visiting their web pages.

Where can I get free contraception and sexual health information from?

I have a disability and got extra time in my exams at school/college.  Can I have this here?

How do I apply for a Student Loan?

You will need to contact your Local Education Authority (LEA) and apply through them.  You can visit the Department for Education and Skills website to find out about the support available and to find details of your LEA.

Can I get legal advice from the university?

Legal advice is not available from the University.  Students are advised to contact the Citizens Advice Bureaux for any legal advice they require.  You can phone the Citizens Advice Bureaux's advice line on 08701 264062 or visit their website to find details of where your local office is.

What can I do if my Student Loan / Bursary is delayed and I have no money left to live on?

I am finding it difficult to settle in at University.  Who can I speak to about this?

Where can I get an HC1 Form?

HC1 forms are available to collect from your Doctor, Dentist or Optician.

You can also get an HC1 by calling the NHS Forms Order Line on 0845 610 1112 or by emailing nhsforms@spsl.com.

I am thinking of withdrawing, interrupting or changing programme, who should i speak to?

If you are thinking of withdrawing, interrupting or changing your programme, it is advisable to discuss your proposal(s) with your Programme Director, before coming to an absolute decision. There could be a range of consequences for students who change programme, interrupt or withdraw; for example, these can be career related, financial, accommodation and student debt related, therefore you may wish to contact the Student Support Officer for any advice relating to your change in circumstances.
