Student ICT Trainer
Gillian Avard is the ICT Trainer for Students works within the Study Support team
in the Department of Student Support & Guidance, based in
Augustine House.
Our Aim
The aim of the ICT Trainer for Students is to provide support
and high quality training for students in a range of ICT
applications in use across the University.
Who we support
The Trainer provides ICT support for all students following
programmes at the University, either on a part or full-time
basis, at any level or on any year of study. You don’t have to
be failing your course or struggling with your studies to
benefit from our support!
What we do
We will try to help you to help yourself. We offer a supportive
atmosphere in which students can meet with our staff and take
positive steps to address their ICT training needs.
We can help you to use ICT effectively in the world of Higher
Education by providing regular ICT workshops, drop in sessions
and bookable 1-2-1 help sessions.
Training will be given in how to use Microsoft Office and any
other packages that are provided for use by all students,
irrespective of their programme of study. We can show you how to
access all of our on-line support materials and how to use
Blackboard, your Virtual Learning Environment. These resources
will help you address your ICT problems and help you to develop
the necessary skills and confidence you need to survive at
University and enhance your academic performance.
What we don't do
Whilst we support you with the use of ICT applications, we do
not do any work for you!
We are unable to support your use of subject-specific software,
such as SPSS. This support should be sought from your academic
department.
