An Introduction to Teaching in HE
Essential session for all academic staff new to teaching in Higher Education
Brief outline:
This induction session is for colleagues who are relatively new to teaching in Higher Education. The complexities of managing students in a learning situation can initially be daunting. The session will offer a host of ideas that you will be able to draw on in the first few weeks of teaching.
You will work with other new colleagues, supported by experienced staff from across the University. The day will include use of a range of teaching and learning strategies, which will involve hands-on activities and group work.
What you can expect to learn:
- The learning, teaching and assessment strategy of the University, plus details of the resources available to support the planning and delivery of taught sessions.
- The quality framework operating at the University and new developments in UK HE
- Academic development opportunities available to staff, including the Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching (HE), which offers a more in-depth focus on issues of learning and teaching in HE.
Many of the themes of the day will be explored later in more depth
in the PGCLT(HE) programme.

What staff say: "I felt that all the speakers were really clear, honest and enthusiastic. I found that the day really made me feel like part of the University and many of my general questions were answered. The day was fun overall - the best induction day I've been to." |
